My Child Life Resources
Here are some of my favorite resources I’ve created for my child life department! Feel free to browse and download (for free! :)
Pill Swallowing Candyland Game - I love using this to teach patients how to swallow pills! It normalizes it & makes it so much more fun!
Child-Friendly Hospital Language - I love this little glossary of medical terms broken down into child-friendly terms!
Talking to Children about Death FAQ - This one is a super helpful resource for families who are experiencing loss. It can be hard to know how to navigate these conversations with children and this flyer answers some of the most common questions. I cannot take credit for writing this one - my coworker Paige did!
Memory-Making Materials - This would be a helpful resource for units where child life is not always present to give nurses (or other staff) ideas/inspiration for memory-making items to create in bereavement situations.
Communication Board - I made this communication board for kids who are nonverbal or cannot speak for whatever reason! It’s mostly relevant to healthcare settings.
Sticker Chart for Drinking - I love using these for patients who need to drink more in order to leave the hospital! Nothing wrong with incentivizing with a prize IMO!
Pill Swallowing Techniques - This could supplement the Pill Swallowing Candyland game! It gives a bunch of different methods to try when learning to swallow pills.
Inside Out Feelings Chart - I love this for younger kids to teach emotional expression/identification!
